Cine: Throne of Blood – Akira Kurosawa
Akira Kurosawa adapts William Shakespeare’s “Mac Beth”, turning medieval Scotland into a visual exploration of the warrior traditions of the japanese mythos.
Two warriors, pledging allegiance to Emperor Tsuzuki, lost in a dark and rainy forest, meet a spirit who offers them a prediction: one of them will rise to become the new Emperor, and the other’s son shall be the throne’s successor.
Obsessed by the spirit’s vision, the first warrior is pushed by his wife to assassinate Emperor Tsuzuki and claim the mysteriously promised throne.
The prophecy now triggered, a whirlwind of violence shall end it.
Composed with various hommage elements of no drama and filmed around Mont Fuji, “Throne of Blood” is often cited as one of the best Shakespeare cinematographic adaptations and a high point in the famed director’s carreer.
Presented is japanese with english subtitles.
